Hands-On Process Control for a BNR Facility (Tazewell County)

This course helps Wastewater Operators as they prepare for an increasingly important technology in the wastewater industry. Participants will have increased knowledge of the important concepts related to BNR systems and a general understanding of how to operate one. The purpose of this course is to provide the student with a process control strategy for a municipal wastewater treatment plant based on the sludge quality approach. 

The course will be two parts. The first part will cover basic theory of activated sludge and nutrient removal process control in a classroom setting. The second part will be hands-on training at a BNR facility where participants will be collecting data in the field, running lab tests, along with microscopic examinations and discussion of test results. Hands-on participation will include sample collection; sludge settleability; microscopic examination; centrifuge testing; NH3 , NO2 and NO3 testing with HACH instruments.
